Localism 'Under Construction' Proceed with Patience
Unless you just joined ActiveRain recently, you've obviously noticed a lot of changes. Needless to say, our gifted and tireless Development Staff has been working at neck-breaking speed over the past several months, on everything from re-structuring major portions of platform code, to launching several new features, and adding to the growing arsenal of business-enhancing tools we offer our members. ActiveRain Founder, Jonathan Washburn, recently provided an overview on some of the most recent upgrades.
Currently, our team is focusing their collective energies on a project long overdue, Localism.
Light at the End of the Tunnel
Our intention at this point is to have most all elements completed and in place by the end of this month, so we can finally move out of private BETA stage, and launch the platform publicly.
It's been a very long and challenging road for all of us. Many of you have expended considerable time and energy contributing a wealth of really excellent content to Localism. Rest assured that all your efforts have not been in vain. The future of Localism is extremely bright, and those who are invested in it's vision will reap the rewards!
Bumps Still in the Road
As we work on finishing up the remaining tasks associated with Localism, you may experience some temporary disruptions in several of the platform features/functions, i.e. photos not uploading, certain articles not showing up, profile information not updating, etc.. While these issues can certainly be annoying, they are only relatively short-lived, and will allow us the time/flexibility to complete this project as planned.
As always, your continued patience and support is greatly appreciated!

We appreciate, or at least I appreciate all the hard work you guys at AR are doing with the site , keep up the good work
Thanks for the heads up. I love Localism and world is just not right when it is not behaving like it's self. I can't wait to seethe final resut. Keep us posted!-Dinah Lee
Hi Rich, Thanks for the heads up! I personally like the direction that Localism is headed.
Okay, I am still interested in what can be a fantastic vehicle so I will wait and watch. I may be paring down the number of neighborhoods I currently have and going for the new outside blog upgrade which also looks very cool!
Does patience mean I can't fly you an email :) :)
I have found that Localism is definitely a part of everything and anything related to RE. If we're in the community we definitely are communicating with PEOPLE and other businesses. Duh.
I have seen an increase in traffic coming from Localism to my primary website. Keep up the good work.
Go Go GO! LOcalism is wonderful:) Thanks for such a great platform!
Hi Rich~
I've been around for awhile here at Active Rain. Indeed, I've been away for awhile and wow have there been some changes! The color in the HTML that I usually use to post is gone... [how did you get it to work?]
Even the logo has changed! It is much more crisp and detailed now...
Rich- You are doing a great job. I must say that I absolutely love the new colors on the homepage, on our home pages, and the brightness and crispness. It is energizing.
Just want to make sure we're all on the same page here... :)
What is Localism?
All Things Localism
I see localism as a great tool to drive clients to us so hopefully it will be back to normal asap.
Still much for us to learn, but thanks to you and Jonathan for your posts. ~Pat
Thanks for the notice and you sure have a way of getting those featured blog quickly, (just kidding buddy)!
Rich - Today I wanted to add some communities...but it couldn't because the "thingy" wasn't there to let me mark them on the map. I will be patient. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update Rich. Glad to know finally things are moving ahead, it's been quite a while in construction.
Rich, This is such a great platform.
Can't wait to see the new and improved.
Greg
Great Rich, Looking good so far. I would like to say that the photo area needs some work. You can't seem to load in different areas. We have two markets here one in Georgia and one in North Carolina. I registered under Georgia because that is our brick and mortar office. But I have wonderful pictures of Hayesville, NC where I live. I went to the Hayesville page and uploaded photos but they showed up under Hiawassee, Ga I assume because of my profile. Any way we could load photos in the areas we actually upload them from and have them end up on that page?
Rich this place has gone through a lot of changes since we first started which has made for a much better site, but I still reflect upon the past with pleasant memories.
I've actually stopped writing as many Localism posts. And I was a huge contributor. But I can never be sure whose face will be sitting beside my posts. That really irks me.
Rich, Thank you for the update and warning.
My only request (well, my highest priority request) is for the format to mirror the format for good ol' ActiveRain. This would assure that formatting efforts we put into our ActiveRain posts would be rewarded by an equally good-looking post in Localism. (same request for all outside blogs) Thanks again to you and the whole AR team!
Thanks so much for the update. I love Localism-keep up the good work! There is so much information available here and it is much appreciated!
I look forward to having all of the kinks worked out. Thanks for the continued innovation!
I think you guys do a great job for the money. Thanks.
Rich, I think I can deal with it. I have more contacts because of my localism posts than my website. You guys and gals are awesome!
I need to do more on localism. I know you guys are always working at making us better
Good things come to those that wait! I am looking forward to it! I have not contributed nearly enough and need to get with it :)
Like the others above I am very appreciative for the Localism exposure that I get, and for all of your hard work and the hard work of the other builders!
While I appreciate the work, it was REALLY annoying to drop in to my community and see that the description was no longer there... apparenty one of the changes was to shorten the description area, and REMOVE any that didn't meet the new spec. I don't know how long it was gone...
Glad to know this is being addresses. Recently when I uploaded photos the descriptions aren't showing. It was great to slide the cursor over a photo and get a description of what it was. Hopefully, that will get fixed as well. I'll wait a bit before I send a Contact email.
I appreciate all you guys are doing. Can't wait to see the results. Huge pat on the back from me.
No worries Rich! Thanks for the updates but I think most of us here are pretty happy with all that you AR peeps are doing for us.
I'll be pleased once all these changes are in place.
Rich - Thanks for the update. I'm sure localism will be great after the changes are done.
Ok Rich....thanks for your helpful updated memorandum.
Rich,
We should all understand that the job is never done and is always in a state of change. Thank you for moving us forward with change and improvement!
Rich, I have to echo Margaret's comment. I would LOVE to see all areas of AR have the same width format... it's really disheartening to spend the time necessary to make a post look a certain way on AR and then it look completely different on the outside blogs and localism. It really takes away from the professional image of our blogs. Just my .02 worth though. You guys are all doing a bang up job otherwise!
Even if it is not quite right yet, Localism google juice is still working great
Good things come to those who wait...:)
so we can finally move out of private BETA stage,
Hey Rich,
Thanks for the GREAT news!!! But did you just say BETA stage??? That explains a whole lot. Am I the last one to find out?! LOL
Rich,
Thank you for all your hard work and efforts. The work is never done and there will always be change..can't wit to see the finish product (at least the latest finished product)!
Rich, thank you and the whole staff for a wonderful venue to give us all a voice. We appreciate your efforts. I, for one, can be very appreciative of Localism for the boost it gives my brokerage. Keep up the good work, man. - Don
I am really looking forward to this going "live" as I'm hoping it will really help those who have built it.
Thanks for the update and looking forward to the next step forward!
Thanks for the heads up I was wondering what was going on.
Thanks for the update. You have been instituting so many new things in the past few months that it must be hard to get them all working at once. I am echoing the request to make all of the formating the same throughout the sites. Thank you for everything that you are doing.
Thank you. I can't wait to get it up and going!
Appreciate you all very much!
Cindy
Rich: All roads have a small bump along the way. the Active Rain Highway is a great road to follow. Looking forward to the finnished product of Localism Way !
Thanks for letting us know, Rich. There is such a great opportunity with Localism, I am anxious for it to be all it can be (to coin a phrase). We just keep getting more and more great stuff from you guys!
Thanks for the heads up. You boys (and girls) are doing a good job of constantly updating. All the best.
Rich, no problem. We appreciate all you guys do. Thanks!
Thanks for the update, Rich! I thought something might be up...
I'm still so new to AR that I'm trying to figure out which end is up! But I already see the quality and calibre of you guys. Thanks for the heads-up, but not to worry! All is well!! :))
So, if we are currently posting to Localism - I am hoping they are going through and not getting lost? ~Rita
I, for one, certainly appreciate all that's put in to AR!
Thank you - thank you - thank you - did I say thank you....
really - I do appreciate the effort and the update
Had the pleasure of talking with Bob this week and he was a huge help. Love Localism, and as always, am most appreciative of all you do. It's also great having the informative posts about developments.
Rich, thanks for the update and know for myself the very concept of Localism is very exciting. I am already sponsoring my neighborhood so I can't wait until the platform launches officially. Thanks for all that you are doing to make AR what it is already. Take care and happy blogging!
You mean I will be able to uploa pictures to it again? Cool. I need to put the twin cities on the map before everyone moves to Hugo. They don't have much room out in Hugo current population is 12,417. Where a the population of the metro area is about 3.2 million. I have been struggling to get it on the map.
Thanks for all you and your staff do. I've been posting to Localism and plan to do more for my area --West Virginia!
Rich,
I appreciate the update. I'm trying to get my little community of Tucson Estates II just to have a correct name in Localism.
Right now, there's a Tucson Est 2, and Tucson Estates Ii.
Mike in Tucson (Estates II)
I have been posting to Localism and love the concept. Appreciate all the hard work. Thank you
Keep going in the right direction and you will get there I am sure.
Way to go Rich...We know you will get it done
Rich, thanks for the heads up. It would be really nice to have a status tab somewhere in the system where you can keep us posted of changes and any current problems.
Much appreciated! Keep up the great work!! AR rocks!!
Rich - Thanks for the update. I am a big fan of the concept of Localism and look forward to seeing what you bring to it now and in the future. I think the potential is huge for Localism and I can't wait to see what you have in store.
Rich, I am really looking forward to begin using Localism to help us drive traffic to Rail Life real estate pages. Be warned, I am gonna do some serious "brain picking" at BarCamp in Feb. :-)
Rich: Who could not be patient after this wonderful explanation? Thx
Rich - thanks for posting this as I believe it is long overdue. We have been sponsoring many communties in our area and were wondering what was going on. Thanks for the update. Keep on rocking! Bob H
I'm feeding localism and cannot wait to see improvements....really pleased with results thus far
Rich, we appreciate your keeping us up to date on the progress of new features.
Rich, I appreciate you taking the time to update us loyal users! I have enjoyed a lot of the new upgrades and design and look forward for what's to come!
Hey Sparky! Now I suppose it is time for me to get my Localism neighborhoods out of Beta as well (I mean, get off my arse and do something with them!)
Tina in Virginia
Thanks for the update Rich!
Thanks for the update. I'm still trying to figure out the North Carolina Blue that is being used. A darker blue shows better and will elicite a stronger response from people. Darker colors are "stronger" colors. The colors remind me of a certain company that started out with these exact same colors, and have now changed their colors and completely changed their name... hmmm...
Rich - we are very excited about the prospects and the opportunity of Localiam. We are invested and look foward to the future updates !
We are all looking forward to it.
Hi Rich,I love the idea of Localism so I am looking forward to the tweaking!
Thanks for the head up as I was going to throw in the towel on advertising on Localism on Monday. I will give it a few more days to see how it goes.
cheers.........
Thanks Rich for the information. Compared to AR, I have never understood the big deal about Localism. It just didn't seem to work well. We pay for our area and have been thinking about canceling but will wait until we see the changes. Thanks!
Mary
Thanks for letting us know...you guys are the best! great service and support!
I am just getting on the Localism bandwagon so I'm looking forward to it being great!
Rich,
I have been spending more time, lately, at Localism. I like the look of the site.

Is there a new wave of Localism coming soon? :-)
I've noticed that my localism posts are taking more than a month to appear under the neighborhood / city.
