No Parking on this blog post

I am honored the TLW would ever consider parking her comment on my post so that she can follow what may develop in the comment thread. It's a common tactic around ActiveRain and the greater blogosphere. Maybe you don't have anything to say right that minute about a particular post, but you want to see what others are saying and have those comments delivered to your email inbox. Maybe you just want a little time to collect your thoughts so you can go back and comment later. Maybe you just want to see how the thread develops before you leave your comment, but you don't want to have to remember to go back and find the post later. So what do you do?

You park your comment on the post and check the 'notify me of comments' box. But you have to leave something, so you just say "parked".

Well those sneaky developers of ours slid in a little feature sometime in the last few days so you no longer have to do that. You can just ask to be notified of comments without even leaving a comment of your own. TLW, you are still welcome to park on my posts, we just didn't want you to have to if you didn't want to.

At the bottom of every post now is a check box that says:

'Notify me of new comments'

This isn't just a feature for logged in members either. Anyone can park themselves on your post and ask to be notified of comments. It makes sense, right? They could come back tomorrow and read all the comments if they wanted to, so we are just making it easier for them to keep up with the conversation on their terms, in their own inbox.

Once you would prefer to stop being notified of comments on the post, you can go back to the post and there is a button that will say:

(I must admit. I could be losing my mind. This feature could very well have been around for a lot longer than the last few days. Jeff is the only other one in the office and he thinks he saw it sometime last week. Jorgen isn't here for me to ask him when it was added. At any rate, none of us have written about it and I thought it was cool. I often want to follow comment threads but don't necesarily have anything of value to add at that moment to the post)

(update: I am not crazy!! Jorgen confirmed it just went live this morning.........well I'm not crazy on this one thing. I could very well be crazy on many other accounts :-) )

Update: I guess this would be a little cooler if you still had the ability to subscribe to comments when you leave a comment. Should have that back soon. Right now this is the only way you can subscribe to comments. I'm so out of touch.........

Bob - it's nice to be able to follow comments without having to post. I don't know that the "stop notifying" me button really has much use - I used to go back to edit my comment, and just uncheck it. On second thought that method wouldn't work if you didn't leave a comment in the first place.

Bob - Ok, that's a good feature...but is that the explanation for this then?  (Sorry to just link it, but its a two part question really and my post explains it already.)  So you know - I flagged my post as "other" so that someone from ActiveRain would see it and know this was going on (in case they didn't already).

Changes,  I wondered where my email alerts were...  now I know..  I used to get notified of all the comments on my posts... so I could go and respond in a timely manner, I thought that was cool, today they were missing and I logged into AR several times to check.. I thought for a bit that I was being ignored?  LOL.

Thanks for the information BOB, now I know what to do to continue getting my emails about comments.  Makes sense.  :)

bob "aka crazy eyes" stewart

Bob, you CrAzY?  Remember the several comments saying that you had crazy eyes?  That was from the AR party in NYC back in January 2008.

But what about those that said, parking, waiting for comments, but what they really wanted was their 25 points?  lol

In any case, this is awesome.  Thanks AR for doing this. And thanks Bob for sharing this.... because there were many times I just didn't have time to comment or something to add, but I wanted to go back to read the comments when there were new ones.

So, what's next?  Up your sleeve?

PS... this is like my first comment in like 2 1/2 days... lol  & hardly any in like 5 days.

Bob, right now it seems that I am typing in a box that has totally disappeared. My guess is that there must be a bug of some kind in the comment sections that are being worked on. Last night it became impossible to leave comments.

Totally off subject..Seems like if you log on with internet explorer the pictures don't show up and the little rain drop covers part of the commentor's name. Are you aware of this? Also spell check and add a link are missing..in fact the whole comment box is missing.

Bob I noticed that for the first time yesterday when I went to check the “notify me” box after I made a comment and it was not there. So after hunting around for it I noticed this box up at the top. So now I am a little confused, are we now going to be notified of all comments on all future blogs that this member writes, since this new box seems to be a onetime thing, or will it know not to notify us until we make a comment on future blogs. It would be nice if one of the BOYS would write a blog explaining this.

Posted by Maureen Bray ~ Home Stager Portland OR ~ Home Staging Portland Oregon (Room Solutions Home Staging Portland OR) about 3 years ago

Bob,

First used "notify" me button when I joined 2 months ago - so maybe Jorgen is the one who is crazy!  I learned quickly to use it sparingly because one gets a unique email for each comment. Not an issue on my posts, but I do not recommend it for Lenn, Todd, Brad, you, etc.

I prefer to use my comment section to check back later - guess this is the parking concept.

Bet TLW will park her cute little bottom any place she chooses!
